What you may not have known, is that Digidesign hate you. They hate me too, seeing as I’m NOT about to spend tens of thousands on their shit (at this point in time).
My conversation with them went thusly:
Me: Hi, I’m looking to buy Pro Tools Academic version but can’t find any retailers in Australia.
DD: That’s because we don’t sell it in Australia.
Me: Oh, why is that?
DD: Because we don’t.
Me: Well that’s not a very helpful answer.
DD: Look I’m not in the business of answering semantic questions and I’m actually on annual leave so I don’t have time to answer these kind of questions.
Me: Right, well I’ll let you speak with the dial tone then.
Give it a year or so, whenever Native Instruments commercially develops these DJ controllers… laptop DJ’ing will explode…
Not sure what they are doing with the SID’s, but considering I am a slut for c64 hacks… who really cares.
“The mother of all transistorized vocoders, prototype of early 70´s custom built for german electronic duo of that period:
documented by back cover photo of KW’s album “Ralf & Florian” and in some part in the artwork on inside sleeve.
The device was used for two studio productions, title “Ananas Symphonie” including synthetic vocals and rhythm track in conjunction with lapsteel guitar and rhythm machine , as well for “Kristallo” with rhythm machine and EMS-Synth.”
No bids, starting at US$3800… one day I will add this puppy to my vocoder collection. One day
When I finally get it sorted… the taste will be sweet. Like honey. And saccharine.
Chip sounds will be a sinch with mmonoplayer.
Electronic music + nerd = c64 max/msp patches. Noice…
Crazy audio/video resynthesis, chop-up madness. If I could control this with a Lemur, I would be so cool and futuristic.
They like using Hammer’s “Can’t touch this”. You’ll see. I think its a thing.
“Copyright infringements have never been easier than with sCrAmBlEd?HaCkZ!”
Do you know Hans? If not, you have certainly heard his music. He started off with Trevor Horn (heard of him?) in the Buggles – you know – Video Killed the Radio Star. Now he scores about every major Hollywood film that’s made. He is the master, I think, of combining electronic, orchestral, acoustic sources. He is not the best composer per se, but he understands musical mood and the effects of every instrument and muscial style like no other.
Below you can see the setup he used to use for orchestral sampling. Each of those Akais is like a section of strings or horns (painstakingly loaded by interns). Nowadays he uses Gigasampler on a PC (if my knowledge is still current).
For all you fuckers who don’t know George Massenburg… Get your head out of your anus and pay some respect.
He created parametric EQ, has just made the first 48-bit EQ plugin, and designed an ‘ambechoic’ studio using 90 tons of timber. Ever heard of GML equalizers? GML stands for George Massenburg Labs and you wouldn’t have because they cost $25,000, while you are happy with the cheap sound of your natively processed reverbs.
School yourself.
While you’re there check out the NAMM and MESSE videos. Product demo videos of more audio hardware and software then you ever knew existed. Waste a whole night and go through it all.
There is also a cool video somewhere you see it explained by one of the aforementioned nerds. I saw it ages ago on Sonic State…
This one is just a guy noodling around… Nice though…
I’ve gotta get YouTube working on this fucking blog.
If you are even the slightest bit interested in music production.
Michael Mayer, Legowelt, John Acquaviva, Carl Craig, Bob Moog (RIP), Atom Heart, Alexander Robotnick, Claudio Simonetti and shitloads more…
Red Bull Music Academy. Corporate sponsorship is evil. Isn’t it. Educate yourself… seriously (about music, not the politics of corporate sponsorship). I’ve never tried Red Bull, as if you give a shit. Just watch the videos.
